Pastor John Moktan : A Journey of Faith and Purpose

Pastor John Moktan was born in 1982, in Dagana, Bhutan, and was raised in a devout Buddhist family. At the age of eleven, he and his family relocated to Nepal, where they lived as refugees in a camp for the next seventeen years. Despite the challenges of refugee life, John remained steadfast and hardworking. In March 2000, he married his beloved wife, Ash Tamang, in Nepal. Together, they have been blessed with two children, Aakash and Anita, who have been a constant support in their ministry journey.

For over a decade, Pastor John worked as a house constructor, providing for his family with dedication and perseverance. In 2009, by the grace of God, new doors opened for him and his family, and they immigrated to Canada, settling in the province of Québec.

Their spiritual journey in Canada began with attendance at a Jehovah’s Witness congregation. However, a few years later, Pastor John had a life-changing vision. In that vision, he received a word from the Lord—John 14:6—where Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” This powerful encounter led Pastor John and his family to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in 2010, in Joliette, Québec.

Soon after, Pastor John became involved in ministry. He served as a worship leader at the United Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Pastor Paul Goley and Pastor Benzie. In 2013, he received a clear calling into pastoral ministry and was anointed as an assistant pastor at the United Pentecostal Church in Joliette. With a humble heart, he allowed God to direct his steps.

In 2014, sensing God’s leading, Pastor John and his family moved to Windsor, Ontario, on March 27. There, he began his own ministry from a small beginning—right inside his apartment. What started as a humble home fellowship grew into a thriving church community.

Today, Pastor John Tamang is the lead pastor of Emmanuel Nepalese Church of Windsor, where he serves full-time in ministry while also working a full-time job to support his family. His life is a testimony of faith, perseverance, and the transforming power of God’s grace.
